Celebrating Successful Transition Days for Incoming Students

Co-op Academy Florence MacWilliams is delighted to announce the success of its recent transition days, held on Wednesday 3rd July and Thursday 4th July, to welcome and prepare new students who will be starting in September. These two days were marked by warmth, friendliness, and a vibrant display of our academy's ethos of Pride, Ambition, Care, and Excellence for Self, School, and City.

An Engaging Introduction to Secondary School Life

Nearly 100 incoming students participated in a variety of stimulating and educational activities designed to make their transition to secondary school smooth and enjoyable. Highlights included sessions in the Lego Innovation suite, where students engaged in problem-solving and team-building exercises, and Art and Design projects that used mathematics as a creative foundation.

Students also conducted a Science experiment using chromatography to solve the mystery of who stole Mr. Bull's sandwich. Additionally, we were pleased to welcome Josh from BeeActive, who led two dynamic sports sessions that energised and entertained the students.

Focus on Future Skills and Assessments

Beyond the fun and interactive activities, the transition days provided students with an introduction to our comprehensive careers program, encouraging them to think about employability and the skills necessary for their future careers. To assess their starting points, all students completed baseline tests in maths and reading, providing valuable insights to tailor their educational journey ahead.

Community Feedback and Looking Forward

The positive feedback from students, parents, and staff has been overwhelming. The warm and friendly atmosphere over the two days truly reflected our commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive community. Our new students embodied the academy's ethos, demonstrating Pride, Ambition, Care, and Excellence in every activity.

Anticipating a Bright Future

“We are thrilled with the success of our transition days and excited to welcome these bright and enthusiastic students back on September 9th, 2024,” said Elizabeth Clewlow, Headteacher of Co-op Academy Florence MacWilliams. “Their energy and engagement over these two days are a promising sign of the wonderful contributions they will make to our school community.”
