Geography

There are five key concepts that are the foundations to the geography curriculum at Co-op Academy Florence MacWilliams. Together they allow pupils to develop their knowledge of geography and then use and apply it to the world around us. The curriculum allows pupils to take Pride in their home environment of Stoke-on-Trent with each year at KS3 including a fieldwork unit to explore the area in which they live. The curriculum develops Ambition because it adopts an applied geography approach which allows pupils to see the real benefits of studying the subject and consequently leads to pupils having the ambition to succeed in Geography. Geography has progressed as a subject and one of the key aspects of its education is now the moral responsibility that humans have to live in a sustainable manner so that future generations are able to achieve the same quality of life. Running through the KS3 curriculum is this concept of sustainability that allows pupils to Care about the world through a greater understanding of how it works. Adopting a mastery approach to both knowledge and skills allows pupils to succeed with Excellence in all they do in Geography.
